6.5% GDP growth seen in 2022 despite Omicron, elections
The Philippine economy could reach at least 6.5% in its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth next year, with minimal impact from the Omicron COVID-19 variant and the national elections, according to the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII).
During a forum, FFCCCII President Henry Lim Bon Liong said that “2022 will be a good year for economic recovery for Asia, especially for the Philippines.”
Liong boasted that the country’s 2022 GDP could be pushed to 7.5% as several businesses under the organizations are optimistic about the economy’s recovery.
The FFCCCII President also said that they are looking forward to a president that will prioritize the agriculture and education industries.
FFCCCII also took part in helping the victims of Typhoon Odette. So far, the federation raised P12 million (US$239,000) and has already given out relief packs to the provinces of Negros Occidental, Southern Leyte, Western Samar, Surigao City, and Cagayan de Oro City.
Last year, the FFCCCII Chinese Community Calamity Fund also raised P300 million (US$5.9 million) for COVID-19 relief in the Philippines.
