BPO could boost Ghana’s ICT sector
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — Ghana’s business process outsourcing (BPO) sector shows strong potential for future expansion, according to remarks by Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) CEO Ambassador Mike Oquaye Jr.
During the 10th Africa Investment Conference (AFSIC) in London, Oquaye highlighted how a thriving BPO industry could create jobs and develop talent in Ghana, boosting the country’s overall literacy rate.
The Ambassador also commended the government’s commitment to developing the ICT sector through progressive educational strategies and policies to facilitate ICT growth.
He also highlighted Ghana’s strategic location and status as a leading investment destination in Africa, advocating for increased collaboration between African business leaders to develop the continent’s BPO capabilities further.
The 2023 AFSIC, known as Africa’s premier investment conference, took place from October 9-10, acting as a hub for key African CEOs to initiate partnerships.
Officials from various institutions, including the GFZA, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), and the UK-Ghana Business Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC), represented Ghana. These representatives jointly presented the Ghana Investment Summit, showcasing numerous investment opportunities.
Ambassador Oquaye and other industry experts delved into the successful sectors of the Ghana Free Zones during the conference.
Other notable speakers included GIPC Head of Investor Services Edward Ashong-Lartey and MIIF CEO Edward Nana Yaw Koranteng, with the session being moderated by UKGCC executive Director Adjoba Kyiamah.
