BPO workers who refuse to return on-site will not be terminated — DOLE
Refusing to go back to onsite work — especially in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry — will not be grounds for termination, said Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Undersecretary Benjo Benavidez.
In an interview with ANC Headstart, Benavidez however explained that the decision to work from home is still left on the employer.
The DOLE official added that workers may lose incentives if they refuse to report to direct their employees. Which, in the long run, could be categorized as “insubordination.”
Benavidez’s statements come after the Fiscal Incentives Review Board (FIRB), with the support of several government agencies, urged employees to go back to their offices starting April 1.
Under Resolution No.19-21, FIRB allowed Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) companies to continue working from home only until the end of March. Violations to this order may result in the removal of tax incentives given to IT-BPM companies.
