BPOs: We are ‘very different’ from POGOs

As Malacañang insists that Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) are part of the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry, BPOs reiterate that they are “very different” from the offshore gaming operators.

Contact Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP) president Jojo Uligan said that the BPO industry “generates a lot of jobs for Filipinos and are leveraging the talent that we have in the Philippines.” He added that BPOs “are not involved in betting, gambling or betting.”

Uligan also noted that BPOs get accreditation from Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), while POGOs get their licenses from the Philippines Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

Further, the IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) has earlier mentioned that POGOs are also not part of the IT-BPO headcount and revenue count of at least 1.3 million employees and $26.3 billion revenues in 2019.
