DOLE, TESDA to create modules for IT-BPM, gig sectors
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Technical Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) are looking to create skills training modules for the Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) and gig industries.
According to DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, these modules will help “fill up the manpower needs” of the said sectors, as well as become a new livelihood source for many people.
Laguesma said that they are closely working with the private sector to ensure that the skills training module will address the demands and standards in each industry.
Moreover, the DOLE chief revealed that he is pushing for the formation of the National Coordinating Council for the implementation of the Philippine Qualification Framework so there will be an intersectoral approach to address the skill requirements of emerging jobs.
The Council will be led by the Department of Education (DepEd) and have member representatives from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), DOLE, TESDA, private sector, and academic institutions.
“Its (Council) goal is to form linkages to determine what are the [skill] needs of the industry and businesses,” Laguesma stated.
