DOLE to expand in the PH
Global food and beverage company DOLE Sunshine Co. is planning to extend its operations in the Philippine provinces while increasing its investments to grow various fruits and producing biofuel from crop waste, according to global president Christian Wiegele.
In an online interview with BusinessWorld, Wiegele shared that the company plans to widen its farm production area in the country.
“We are working together with our local teams, local municipalities, and local partners to increase our hectares for pineapples. The same goes for other selected produce. We definitely plan to continue investing and growing our business here in the Philippines across the whole brand portfolio.”
Wiegele added that the firm had already been growing its products in over 30,000 hectares of farmland across Davao, General Santos City, Bukidnon, and Cagayan de Oro in Mindanao, and small farms in Luzon.
Dole provides employment to over 40,000 Filipinos and the majority of the company’s overall output –particularly for bananas and pineapples– comes from the country.
“The main export markets of Dole’s fresh produce grown in the Philippines include Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Japan, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates,” he added.
