DOLE to review mandatory vaccination proposal for economic frontliners
The proposal to make vaccination mandatory for economic frontliners, including Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) workers, will be reviewed by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
This comes after presidential adviser for entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion wrote a letter to DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III requesting the agency to require the inoculation of workers who directly interact with customers.
The suggested mandate will affect employees in hospitality, tourism, retail, and those who engage in labor-intensive work such as construction, automotive, manufacturing, electronic semiconductors, and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industries.
Concepcion said that they are recommending the implementation of this rule because they think that it is “not correct” for workers to not be vaccinated while customers have to get jabbed to be served in an establishment.
Meanwhile, in an interview with CNN Philippines, Bello stated that while there is no vaccine mandate for the local workforce, several restaurants have already implemented this rule for their employees.
