DOTr to revamp PH aviation system
MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) recently announced that the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) will assist the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) in updating its system.
After the New Year’s Day mayhem in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminals which affected more than 300 flights, DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista said in a radio interview on DZRH that the government will be upgrading its existing facilities.
“Putting up a new ATM (air traffic management) will be one of our priorities for 2023,” Bautista said.
He however said that this project might take around four years.
In a statement, the CAAP said the decision to upgrade came after a meeting with various heads of government agencies on Tuesday.
The said meeting was followed by an inspection of equipment and facilities in the CAAP compound. Heads of DOTr, DICT, Department of National Defense, National Intelligence Coordination Agency, and Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines joined the inspection.
