DTI eyes PH-China ecozone partnership
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is backing a proposal that will open the collaboration of local and Chinese economic zones, boosting the tourism, trade, and investment sectors in both Manila and Beijing.
During the recent Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP)-Electrical Industry Cooperation Matchmaking event, DTI Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo said that there is a “potential synergy” between China and Philippines’ economic zones.
Rodolfo proposed investment opportunities in manufacturing and digital technologies. He also pitched the country as a complementary location for the production of high technology export products.
The DTI official added that Chinese investors are welcome to develop ecozones into “eco-townships or smart cities, complete with embedded renewable energy sources and other utilities…”
Rodolfo highlighted that China is an “important” business partner of the Philippines as both are included in the RCEP.
The DTI and China-ASEAN Business Council (CABC) have also recently signed a memorandum of understanding on economic and trade strategic cooperation framework.
