Employers are more tolerant of workers having multiple jobs — Jobstreet
More companies are becoming tolerant of their employees who have multiple jobs as the Philippines records over 1.5 million freelancers.
During a briefing, Jobstreet Country Manager Philip Gioca believes that the majority of people who are working from home are doing multiple jobs.
He explained that employers will not likely stop these employees from doing multiple jobs unless there are some ethical issues and work practices that are not being met.
Gioca added that the pandemic had also shifted many employees’ priorities, causing a “great reshuffle” in the job market.
“Overall, employees have emerged with a stronger sense of what they want from work and what they are willing to accept. As a result, many are on the career move,” he stated.
This phenomenon presents a big opportunity for both recruiters and jobseekers. For instance, job seekers should upgrade their current skills, continue networking with colleagues, join webinars and training programs, and take advantage of career fairs.
Meanwhile, employers should re-evaluate the structure and goals of teams within the company, invest in team skills, focus on retention, and mental health, and guard against employee burnout.
Based on current data, there are a total of 4.6 million Filipinos that are currently looking for employment opportunities.
