Firms could ride provincial move of BPO workers —- IBPAP
The Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry in the Philippines could now establish new hubs in the countryside as its provincial headcount reaches 30%.
According to IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) Talent Attraction and Development Executive Director Frankie Antolin, the sector’s rise outside Metro Manila presents an opportunity to decentralize its operations and create opportunities in untapped markets.
During a conference hosted by the Makati Business Club, Antolin said that they are looking for new ways to expand the sector’s provincial headcount. She also shared her hopes of bringing more IT-BPM work opportunities closer to the people.
“It is not really just about decongesting, but we want to be able to bring the (IT-BPM) sector and create more IT-BPM digital hubs across the country. That is certainly one of the priorities that we have, which is to move and expand into the countryside,” Antolin stated.
The IBPAP official added that the work-from-home (WFH) arrangement for the past two years had been a success for the BPO industry — recording a total of 1.44 million full-time employees and bringing P29.49 billion (US$529 million) in revenue last 2021.
