WASHINGTON, D.C., UNITED STATES — A new survey reveals how Generation Z is defining the future of work on their own terms, with an entrepreneurial spirit and adaptability to artificial intelligence (AI).
Generation Z, or Gen Z, refers to those born between the mid-1990s and early 2010s.
Morning Consult and Samsung Solve for Tomorrow surveyed over 1,000 students aged 16-25 and found that 50% want to become entrepreneurs, starting their own businesses aligned with their passions. This drive for autonomy contrasts with previous generations focused on traditional career paths.
Additionally, 21% see AI as creating opportunities, while 40% expect AI-driven disruption across industries. Gen Z is entering the workforce amidst transformative technologies. Their top preferred sectors are entertainment and media (33%), technology (30%), and design (30%) innovative fields.
When envisioning the workplace in 10 years, Gen Z expects more advanced technologies like AI, machine learning and VR (58%), remote work options (41%), and emphasis on diversity and inclusion (36%).
To succeed as entrepreneurs, Gen Z values hard work (64%), perseverance (49%), and connections (49%). Their top career priorities are work-life balance (50%) and career growth (50%).
The survey revealed some gender differences. Healthcare (37%) attracts females most, while males prefer technology (43%).
Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow competition now includes a Rising Entrepreneurship Award to encourage Gen Z’s entrepreneurial spirit. As Gen Z shapes the future of work, the $2 million program aims to equip the next generation of STEM leaders.
