Global digital jobs to reach 92M by 2030, WEF predicts

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND — A recent white paper by the World Economic Forum, titled The Rise of Global Digital Jobs, anticipates a significant expansion in digital jobs that can be performed remotely.
The paper, developed with technology giant Capgemini, projects a 25% increase in these roles by 2030, coming to around 92 million globally.
The types of work likely to evolve into these remote digital jobs include higher-paying roles with incomes of over $75,000, such as software developers, finance managers, and financial risk specialists.
Middle-income remote roles, with pay between $42,500 and $75,000, could include paralegals, graphic designers, and insurance investigators.
Lower-income remote digital jobs, paying under $42,500, could include telemarketers, customer service representatives, and bill and account collectors.
The paper concludes that 218 job types out of 5,400 have the potential to become global digital jobs. This represents 73 million global workers and 820 million workers covered in the International Labour Organization’s occupation employment statistics.
“If managed well, global digital jobs present an opportunity to utilize talent around the world, widening the talent pool available to employers and providing economic growth pathways to countries across the income spectrum,” the report said.
