Gov’t will continue to support IT-BPM industry – DTI
The government will continue to support the Information Technology-Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry in the Philippines as the country moves forward into an economic recovery, said Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez.
During a virtual Contact Islands 2021 conference, Lopez stated that the success of the industry made it among the key priorities of the “Make It Happen in the Philippines” campaign created by the country’s investment promotion agencies.
Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) chairman Karlo Alexei Nograles also acknowledged the collaboration between the government and the IT-BPM industry that generated over 1.32 million direct jobs and more than four million indirect jobs during the crisis.
Meanwhile, Contact Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP) chairman Benedict Hernandez said that the classification of the sector as essential “was pivotal in protecting our ability to continue supporting our clients and keep our employees employed.”
However, Hernandez said that the country needs to boost its infrastructure development and fiber-to-home connection as there is a rapid shift in data traffic while employees are working from home.
