IBM to train 2 million in AI by 2026

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES — In an effort to address the global artificial intelligence (AI) skills gap, IBM has announced a groundbreaking commitment to train two million individuals in AI by the end of 2026, with a special emphasis on underrepresented communities.
IBM’s strategy involves collaborating with universities worldwide, offering AI education to adult learners through partnerships, and introducing new generative AI coursework via IBM SkillsBuild.
“AI skills will be essential to tomorrow’s workforce,” said Justina Nixon-Saintil, IBM Vice President & Chief Impact Officer.
“That’s why we are investing in AI training, with a commitment to reach two million learners in three years, and expanding IBM SkillsBuild to collaborate with universities and nonprofits on new generative AI education for learners all over the world.”
According to recent research by the IBM Institute of Business Value, executives estimate that 40% of their workforce, particularly those in entry-level positions, will need to acquire AI and automation skills within the next three years.
IBM SkillsBuild, the online platform for AI education, will offer a range of new, free generative AI courses, including Prompt-Writing, Getting Started with Machine Learning, Improving Customer Service with AI, and Generative AI in Action.
This initiative builds upon IBM’s earlier commitment to upskill 30 million individuals by 2030, with over seven million learners enrolling since 2021.
