IBPAP asks for more support from next admin

The IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) is requesting additional support from the next administration to sustain the growth of the local Information Technology and Business Process Outsourcing (IT-BPO) industry.

In an interview, IBPAP President Jack Madrid said that the next government leader should strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure and internet connectivity to allow BPO expansion in the countryside.

He stated that the shift of big industry players to provinces could help “propel [those] local economies” and take advantage of the skills of the country’s “very young” population.

Moreover, Madrid said that the next admin should help implement a permanent work-from-home (WFH) law to “maintain our country’s competitiveness” in the global outsourcing market.

The IBPAP leader shared that they are currently crafting a plan to smoother transition from full-time office work to a hybrid working environment.

The recent implementation of Alert Level 1 in Metro Manila and 38 other areas has driven the government to encourage on-site work in a bid to boost the country’s economic recovery.

Further, the Fiscal Incentives and Review Board (FIRB) rejected the proposal of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) to allow the extension of the WFH in IT-BPO firms while enjoying tax incentives until September this year.
