73% of India tech startups plan major hiring surge: TeamLease Services

BENGALURU, INDIA — Around 73% of e-commerce and tech startups in India are gearing up for workforce expansion, according to the Employment Outlook Report for October 2024 to March 2025 by TeamLease Services.
This surge is expected to bring a net employment change of 8.9%, highlighting the sectors’ growth trajectory.
The report attributed this momentum to advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), the rise of Web 3.0 applications, and the growing adoption of direct-to-consumer (D2C) business models. These technological innovations are enabling companies to better meet consumer demands while streamlining operations.
Employee retention becomes strategic priority
Retention strategies are taking center stage, with 88% of e-commerce firms implementing targeted incentives, recognition programs, and career development initiatives.
These measures aim to foster a motivated and stable workforce, essential for sustaining growth in a competitive market.
Bengaluru and Chennai dominate job creation
When it comes to geographic distribution, Bengaluru leads with 61% of companies planning workforce expansion, followed closely by Chennai at 59%.
Pune is also emerging as a growing hub for tech talent, accounting for 21% of the projected job growth.
Hybrid staffing models offer flexibility
The report highlights a shift toward hybrid staffing models, with 89% of e-commerce companies blending permanent and temporary workforces. This approach allows businesses to remain agile while addressing fluctuating demands.
