Ireland’s cybersecurity workforce to hit 17K by 2030
The cybersecurity workforce in Ireland could potentially grow to more than 17,000 and contribute €2.5 billion (US$2.6 billion) in annual gross value added (GVA) by 2030.
In a report conducted by national cybersecurity cluster Cyber Ireland and cybersecurity education platform Cyber Skills, 83% of respondents expect their cybersecurity team to grow over the next 12 months.
Cyber Ireland Cluster Manager Dr. Eoin Byrne said that “cybersecurity is a rapidly growing industry…with the right business supports and measures.”
He added that the Irish infosec industry currently contributes €1.1 billion (US$1.15 million) in annual GVA. In the most recent financial year, the cybersecurity-related revenue in Ireland reached approximately €2.1 billion (US$2.21 billion).
Munster Technological University Chair of Cybersecurity Prof Donna O’Shea, chair of said that the opportunity for Ireland to grow and develop the cybersecurity sector is “dependent on a supply of suitably qualified individuals.”
Currently, there are 489 cybersecurity companies in Ireland employing 7,300 cybersecurity professionals across 734 offices.
