New DICT chief to set up 24/7 e-govt service
Incoming Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Ivan Uy is planning to set up a 24/7 electronic-government (e-government) service in the Philippines.
In an interview with The Manila Times, Uy said he wants to address “the public’s demands and requests in dealing with government service.”
He added that he is looking to simplify and digitalize the processing of documents under his terms to limit personal interactions and make government service accessible.
Lamenting the Philippines’ reputation as the most prominent Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) hub in Asia, Uy stated that he wants to use these services for the country’s purposes.
The incoming DICT chief plans to work with heads of different government agencies to have just one system for processing government services.
Before his appointment in the DICTunder the incoming Marcos administration, Uy headed the now-defunct Commission on Information and Communications Technology in 2010 under the Aquino administration.
He also served as the chief information officer of the Supreme Court during the term of Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr.
