Odata opens first data center in Mexico

Brazil-based data center firm Odata launched its first hyper-scale data center in Mexico after investing R$388 million (US$79 million).

Dubbed QR01, the data center is set on a 52,350 square meter (sq.m.) area and has a 30,400 sq.m. of built area in an industrial park in El Marqués, Querétaro state,

According to Odata LatAm Expansion Director Vitor Caram, the data center’s total projected power capacity is 32MW which will be reached within four years after all the expansion phases are completed.

For the first phase, the site went live with 8.4MW of installed capacity.

The company also assured the public that its data centers are carrier-neutral, meaning they are not tied to a single carrier, which allows customers to choose the one that best suits their business model.

Founded in 2015, Odata has five data centers across Latin America — three in Brazil, one in Colombia, and one more in Chile.

Previously, Odata said it was investing US$320mn in its data center projects in Latin America. A senior executive of the company told BNAmericas recently there are plans to build a data center in Peru soon.
