PH-based healthcare BPOs hope to expand in the Aussie market
The healthcare information management services (HIMS) industry in the Philippines is seeking a larger share of the Australian market after expanding its services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Health Information Management Association of the Philippines (HIMAP) President Vincent Remo, the sector’s growth was driven by increased demand for healthcare services during the health crisis.
He stated that the local healthcare industry is able ”adapt quickly to the changes, [has] a robust IT infrastructure to support HIMS businesses, as well as government and private sector initiatives on upskilling of workers, particularly on future trends and opportunities such as the Internet of Things, analytics, and artificial intelligence.”
Remo noted that from 2020 to 2022, the industry’s revenue increased from 4.8% to 5.3%, while headcount grew from 4.01% to 4.5%.
“This indicates that the Philippines is now offering higher value-added services as compared to the previous years,” the HIMAP official concluded.
Meanwhile, Medgate Philippines Country Manager Ron Estrella said that the HIMS sector is expected to grow further even after the pandemic as it could “streamline” the consultation process and aid in the shortage of skilled doctors.
