PH internet speeds up in March
The internet speed in the Philippines improved last month as the government’s streamlined process allowed more telecommunication companies to continue expanding their services.
In Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index report, both fixed broadband and mobile median download speeds for the country increased in March compared to the previous month.
Fixed broadband median speed rose by 6.23% from 49.10 Mbps (Megabits per second) to 52.16 Mbps.
Meanwhile, the mobile median speed went up by 3.14% as download speed went from 18.79 Mbps to 19.38 Mbps.
Telco giant PLDT and its wireless arm Smart Communications said that streamlining permit processing in the government allowed them to secure more than 50,000 fixed and wireless permits as of February.
Globe Telecom, for its part, said the huge demand for connectivity prompted the government to heed telcos’ plea for support in network deployment, particularly with the tedious permitting issues.
Last 2021, the Philippine government implemented the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act and the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act to help remove impediments to telco infrastructure projects in the country.
