PH strengthens agriculture, construction, IT, BPO courses
MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is urging Filipino workers to learn new skills and get micro-credentials in the agriculture, construction, Information Technology (IT), and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industries.
According to TESDA Deputy Director General Aniceto John Bertiz, their efforts are focused on these industries as they are part of the current administration’s priorities.
Aside from technical courses, Bertiz stated that TESDA also offers 150 online programs for free. The public could also enroll in foreign language courses — such as Nihongo, Mandarin, Korean, Arabic, French and German — to become language tutors.
At the same time, the TESDA official revealed that at least 90% of TESDA students successfully landed jobs after completing their training within the organization.
He added that they are working with local government units (LGUs) to promote modern skills training — like cybersecurity and renewable energy— to the locals.
“Our skill is our future,” Bertiz stated. “The more na mayroon tayong kaalamanan, kakayahan, the more tayo magkakaroon ng mga opportunities.”
