Remote islands off Zamboanga gain internet access
Three far-flung islands off Zamboanga City in Mindanao as the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) launched free Wi-Fi sites in the area.
Under the government’s Broadband ng Masa initiative, the DICT provides free internet to rural areas in the Philippines. Recently the islands of Sacol, Tigtabon and Pangapuyan were given access to the internet under the said program.
Free Wi-Fi can be accessed in four sites in Sacol Island, namely, Madrasah, Landang Laum Elementary School, Landang Laum Barangay Hall, and Landang Gua Elementary School; two sites in Pangapuyan, namely, Pangapuyan Elementary School and Pangapuyan Barangay Hall; and one in Tigtabon, at the Tigtabon Barangay Hall.
The DICT also turned over tablets to each of the following schools: Landang Gua Elementary School, Sacol Island, Landang Laum Elementary School, Sacol Island, Tigtabon Elementary School, and Pangapuyan Elementary School.
