Remote work demand surged six-folds in Ireland
Searches for remote work jobs in Ireland were found to be six times higher in December 2021 than before the pandemic, according to joint research by job site Indeed and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
In their report, Indeed and OECD said that this trend is set to continue even after the country eased its restrictions last week.
Employers are also found to cater to this demand as about 12.5% of job adverts in Ireland now contain remote working options, compared to just 2.9% in 2019. This made the European country the second highest in terms of its growth in remote postings.
Among all sectors, remote work job opportunities notably increased in IT and software development industries.
Indeed and OECD stated that this development highlighted the need for public policies that will ensure the positive effects of remote working on productivity and well-being.
This may include ensuring that workers have a suitable working environment, facilitating the spread of managerial best practices, or ensuring that everyone has access to a fast, reliable, and secure Internet connection.
Indeed Economist Jack Kennedy said that the accelerated development of remote working could present some “teething problems along the way with company policies needing to adapt and evolve.”
