Teachers undergo training on BPO, ICT courses
Public school teachers from Dumaguete City are being trained in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industries to help incorporate these sectors into their lesson plans.
Suzanne Lu-Bascara, site director of BPO provider Inspiro Dumaguete and President of the ICT Association of Dumaguete and Negros Oriental (ICT DGTE), said that they have designed a training program for teachers that are aligned with industry standards.
She added that the teacher participants were screened just like how BPO applicants are screened, “to identify gaps where we can fill through training.” The teachers will undergo 20 hours of training for 10 days.
This comes as the Department of Education (DepEd) plans to integrate BPO and ICT into the Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) track for senior high school students in the coming school year.
DepEd-Dumaguete Division Schools Superintendent Dr. Gregorio Cyrus Elejorde said that the timing for this integration is right as the BPO and ICT industries open more jobs in Dumaguete and Negros Oriental.
Bascara noted that Inspiro and the ICT DGTE will support DepEd teachers this school year so that by graduation next year, “we can offer employment to graduates who apply and qualify”.
