CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES — Nearly two-thirds of workers worldwide are feeling overwhelmed by the pace of change, according to new research from LinkedIn.
The study reveals that 64% of workers are struggling to keep up with workplace transformations, while 68% are actively seeking more support than ever before.
The survey was conducted by Censuswide among over 20,000 professionals across 11 countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Germany, India, Australia, Brazil, the Netherlands, Singapore, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates between September 2-11, 2024.
Adapting to new realities
The research highlights three primary challenges facing workers in this shifting environment:
- Proving successful remote work capabilities (30%)
- Integrating AI into daily tasks (27%)
- Managing multi-generational teams (25%)
These challenges are reflected in LinkedIn’s platform data, which shows a 123% increase in posts mentioning flexible work over the past two years.
Additionally, there has been a 117% spike in the use of LinkedIn Learning courses designed to build AI aptitude among non-technical professionals in the last year alone.
The support gap
Despite the clear need for guidance, many workers feel unsupported in navigating these changes. Only 37% of professionals believe they can rely on their managers for help during periods of workplace transformation, and 51% think their company’s leadership is adequately assisting them in keeping pace with changes.
Furthermore, 56% of workers acknowledge that experience alone is insufficient in today’s rapidly evolving work environment. This sentiment is echoed by the 46% who express a need for guidance on the skills required to navigate workplace changes effectively.
To help employees adapt, LinkedIn offers advice on “staying current” by regularly engaging with insights from trusted experts on topics like AI and hybrid work, adopting a growth mindset to stay open to new learning, and utilizing “bite-sized” learning through short-form videos.
As LinkedIn’s study found, nearly half of professionals (46%) find these short videos the most helpful for staying informed, contributing to a 34% increase in video uploads on LinkedIn over the last year.
As the professional world continues to transform, it’s clear that both workers and organizations must adapt their strategies to ensure success in this new era of work. With the right support and mindset, professionals can turn these challenges into opportunities for growth and innovation.
