The Jupiter Cable System, Philippine\u2019s newest international cable system, went officially online last Friday, June 29.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In a statement, telecom provider PLDT said the new cable system will \u201cimmensely boost\u201d the country\u2019s international data capacity and advance digital infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe 14,000-km. Jupiter Cable system is the newest international gateway connecting the Philippines directly from PLDT\u2019s cable landing station in Daet, Camarines Norte to Japan and the US West Coast,\u201d PLDT added.<\/span><\/p>\n Moreover, Jupiter is set to triple PLDT\u2019s international capacity to 60 Terabits per second and is seen to be especially useful since a bulk of Internet content and services accessed by Filipinos are from servers in the US and Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe capacity offered by Jupiter is expected to help promote the Philippines to global hyper scalers and position the country as the new digital hub in the Asia-Pacific,\u201d the statement emphasized.<\/span><\/p>\n By increasing the country\u2019s international data capacity, it said the Jupiter cable would enhance the country\u2019s image as an investment destination.<\/span><\/p>\n To date, PLDT has access to 15 international submarine cable networks and wants to expand further with two more \u2013 the Asia Direct Cable and the APRICOT cable system, both expected to be completed in the next two years.<\/span><\/p>\n
