4 hyperscalers to apply for PEZA-membership

At least four hyperscalers are planning to invest in the Philippines through registering with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).
In an interview, PEZA Deputy Director-General Tereso Panga said that these hyperscalers, also known as data centers, are interested in registering with PEZA to decrease its high power rates.
Panga explained, “Data center —it’s power intensive. So they want to be co-located in PEZA zone (because) only PEZA can provide franchise, embedded power to operate it in ecozone.
He added that data centers outside ecozones could be “exposed to regular power rates” in the country.
The PEZA official stated that these companies are just waiting for the results of the national elections before proceeding with the investment and membership registration.
Panga further disclosed that these investors are “big players” who are already setting their sights on the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, and Laguna.
