46% of freelancers see increasing demand, says Payoneer

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES — Nearly half, or around 46%, of freelancers worldwide saw an increase in demand for their work in the first three months of the year, said financial services firm Payoneer.
In its 2023 Freelancer Insights Report, Payoneer said that the bulk of requests comes from digital businesses “growing across borders with a need to augment their teams.”
The study also noted that 68% of freelancers expect demand to grow this year as more companies seek their services.
Payoneer’s report, which polled 2,000 freelancers across 122 countries, highlighted how “resilient” the freelancing industry can be in the face of new challenges.
In response to the rising cost of living, the survey results showed that 55% of respondents have taken on more work, and 32% have expanded their client base to new countries.
When asked if they are satisfied with the freelancing lifestyle, over 80% of the freelancers surveyed are either satisfied or very satisfied, while only 3% feel unsatisfied.
Monique Avila, Payoneer’s Country Manager for the Philippines, said a “growing number” of businesses are relying on freelancers due to the “convenience, flexibility, and outstanding quality of work” within the industry.
