Groups train 500,000 African kids on tech skills

LAGOS, NIGERIA — Lagos organizations The Creative Kids Zone (TCKZone) and Team Masters Limited have partnered on a 16-month project to provide digital skills training to 500,000 children aged 7-17 in Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya.
The program aims to bridge the digital divide and empower underserved youth through technology education. TCKZone and Team Masters will identify 3,000 schools in 57 disadvantaged communities to participate.
One hundred volunteers and teachers will be trained to facilitate hands-on learning sessions on coding, design, robotics, game development, web development, and mobile apps. Stakeholder engagement, venue identification, student recruitment, and collaboration with local organizations will support implementation.
TCKZone founder Oludamilola Soyombo said the initiative envisions progress for Africa driven by technology’s transformative power.
“By providing them with essential technology skills such as coding, design, robotics, game development, web development, and mobile app creation, we are positioning children to thrive in a rapidly evolving world,” she told Nigerian independent newspaper The Guardian.
The program offers an innovative curriculum to equip youth with competitive digital abilities and leadership skills. The immersive experience allows digital novices to interact with modern technologies. ICT infrastructure established in select communities will ensure equal access to materials and sustainable impact.
Soyombo noted the initiative aims to overcome challenges faced by underserved communities and catalyze the digital economy by empowering technologically literate youth. She anticipates lasting, positive change as African children become leaders in technological innovation.
