56% of women say remote work helped their careers – BBC UK

About 56% of women in the United Kingdom said that working from home helped them progress at their work as childcare duties become less of a hindrance to working full-time, said a BBC survey.

The report also stated that 65% of managers felt that working from home helped advance the careers of women in the country.

Meanwhile, in a YouGov poll with over 1,600 respondents, 65% of women aged 18 to 24 and 61% of women living in London believe that homeworking gave them career benefits while only 49% of women in Scotland agreed with the statement.

Additionally, 57% of respondents with “white collar” jobs believed that remote work would help in their career prospects as opposed to 53% in the lower socio-economic.

However, 25% of women stated that they are unlikely to advance in their careers while working remotely.

Just recently, the government announced a proposal that allows all UK employees to request a flexible working arrangement from their first day at a new employer.

CIPD senior policy advisor Claire McCartney said that this policy could present a real advantage to career women, especially those with more childcare responsibilities at home.
