81% of firms experience tech talent shortage — report

BENGALURU, INDIA — Around 81% of organizations worldwide struggle with a shortage of “power user or developer” tech skills due to the high demand for application developers and business app users.
According to professional services firm EY and skills intelligence and assessment platform iMocha, there are 26 million tech talent globally, with 65% in software engineering roles, 27% in IT roles, and 8% in business app-related roles.
However, iMocha Founder and CEO Amit Mishra said job roles and skill needs are “changing faster than ever.”
He added that 28% of leaders believe they must revamp tech skills for a third of their talent base by 2025 to stay competitive.
Meanwhile, 62% of employers believe 5-15% of their talent base will require skills transformation in the next 2-3 years.
Around 33% of employers estimate that 15-35+% of their talent base will require this upgrade.
EY India People Advisory Services Partner Alpana Dutta added that tech skills are valuable across job roles as companies use different tools and skill complexities within the industry.
EY and iMocha’s findings are based on in-depth interviews with industry leaders from tech-related sectors across India, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union.
