ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN — Pakistan is building a technology park in Islamabad that will house around 100 technology companies and nearly 8,400 technology professionals, as the country pushes to grow its IT exports.
The Islamabad Technology Park Development Project has an estimated cost of Rs23.3 billion ($83 million).
Space for IT firms and startups
Work is underway on the project, which is being developed under the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication and the Pakistan Software Export Board, according to PhoneWorld.
The park is being built at Chak Shahzad on about 14.9 acres, with roughly 719,775 square feet of covered space.
It is designed to support IT-enabled services, software development, research and development, incubation and collaboration between universities and industry.
Startups and emerging technology businesses will get space to develop their products, access relevant facilities and build connections with other companies and institutions.
The project’s cost figure comes from official documents, the report said.
Exports in focus
The government has identified IT infrastructure and export growth as key priorities in 2026.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed relevant authorities to take further measures to improve IT exports and digital infrastructure.
The government said the project is part of broader efforts to expand Pakistan’s digital economy and strengthen its technology sector.
It is also meant to support IT exports and create opportunities for skilled professionals.
Once operational, the park could give technology companies and professionals a dedicated space while supporting research, innovation and collaboration with academia.
For outsourcing buyers, purpose-built parks add the office capacity providers need to scale delivery teams in the capital.
That could widen the pool of Pakistani firms able to take on business process outsourcing (BPO) and software work for overseas clients.
Firms weighing offshore outsourcing in the country can start with the top BPO companies in Pakistan and ask where each plans to add seats.
