DIEMEN, NETHERLANDS — Randstad has named Karien van Gennip, the Netherlands’ former minister of social affairs and employment and deputy prime minister, as CEO of Randstad Nederland, effective Dec. 1, 2026.
She succeeds Jeroen Tiel, who is stepping down after a 30-year career with the company. The move puts a former cabinet minister at the head of Randstad’s business in its home market.
From government to staffing
Randstad announced the appointment in a press release on Oct. 28.
Before her public roles, she was CEO of health insurer Coöperatie VGZ, where she led a repositioning focused on digital care, customer experience and ecosystem innovation.
Earlier, she spent 12 years in senior leadership positions at ING Group, including five years as CEO of ING Bank France, where she led large-scale digital transformations.
Labor-market knowledge in demand
“As dynamics in the labor market become increasingly complex, partly due to changing laws and regulations, Karien’s deep knowledge of the Dutch labor market makes us an even stronger partner for our clients,” said Sander van ‘t Noordende, CEO and chair of Randstad’s executive board.
Van ‘t Noordende said her record of leading complex organizations through digital and cultural transformations makes her the ideal leader to guide Randstad Nederland through its next growth phase.
He also thanked Tiel, saying he delivered strong commercial results over 30 years and gave direction during sweeping changes in the sector and society.
Tiel hands over
“Leading Randstad Nederland was the absolute privilege of my career,” Tiel said.
He said the organization needs a new leader for its next phase as the labor market and the world of work keep changing fast, and that he and van Gennip share the same view of the role of work in society.
“I therefore hand over the baton to her with complete confidence,” Tiel said.
Van Gennip’s priorities
“Randstad is a special company that plays a crucial role in the Dutch economy,” van Gennip said.
She said she looks forward to working with Randstad’s team to accelerate growth, strengthen clients, give employees room to develop and create opportunities for the company’s talent.
A global staffing group
Randstad is headquartered in the Netherlands, operates in 39 markets and employs about 38,000 people worldwide.
In 2025 it supported nearly 150,000 clients and more than 1.7 million talent, with revenue of €23.1 billion ($26Bn).
What it means for buyers
For employers that source staff in the Netherlands, Randstad’s home-market business will be run by a former minister of social affairs and employment.
