Alorica to shut down Minneapolis call center
California-based customer service outsourcing firm Alorica Inc. announced that it will shut down its call center in Mendota Heights in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. The move will result in the layoffs of all 158 employees, effective March 15.
The company’s decision to exit Mendota Heights comes less than two years since it announced that it would expand the said branch’s workforce from 350 workers to 900 by the end of 2018 as it obtained a new travel company as a client and planned to grow its healthcare accounts. Other Alorica call centers in the US will also be closed, including one in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where 143 workers will be affected, said Alorica.
However, the firm is said to be hiring 9,000 staff in the Philippines. Erica McCarthy, a spokesperson for Alorica, said the company continues to hire, grow, and make changes in all the regions in which it operates. McCarthy noted that the company hired thousands of people in North America in 2019, with almost 50% of the workforce based in the US.
