Converge ICT eyes smart city in Subic

Telecommunications firm Converge ICT Solutions Inc. has announced plans to establish a smart city inside the Subic Freeport. The plan is to power the smart city with cable landing stations and data center infrastructure to modernize the freeport.
The company’s CEO, Dennis Uy, has already discussed the plan to establish the smart city with Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Chair and Administrator Wilma Eisma. Backed by private equity giant Warburg Pincus, Converge currently provides fiber optic internet access to its subscribers in Metro Manila and the provinces of Pampanga, Tarlac Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, and Pangasinan.
The company earlier signed a one-year agreement with the Department of Information and Communications Technology to provide free public internet access in the provinces of Pampanga, Tarlac, and Cavite.
