Community quarantine threatens 1 million jobs: NEDA
A study by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) predicts that up to a million jobs are threatened by the ongoing enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.
Additionally, the quarantine is also expected to bring significant losses to retail trade due to mall closures, idleness in non-food and non-health-related manufacturing, and cancellation of flights. NEDA, in its economic impact report, said the lockdown in Luzon could reduce employment by 61,000 to one million persons.
Business process outsourcing firms, however, are included in the businesses that are allowed to remain open, along with banks, food businesses, health services, utilities, and a small number of others.
