PH facing the “second wave” of COVID-19 pandemic – expert

As the number of COVID-19 cases continues to surge, the Philippines is now considered to be under the “second wave” of the pandemic, said Dr. Jomar Rabajante of the UP COVID-19 Pandemic Response Team.
In an online forum, Rabajante said that this second wave could’ve been suppressed “if we had several interventions.”
“For example, if we have an early rollout of the vaccine. Second, if we were careful in reopening the economy. And, if we were better prepared [in] the presence of new variants.”
However, a World Health Organization (WHO) official has previously stated that the spike in the number of infections “could not be considered a second wave because the first wave has yet to be flattened.” Rabajante also clarified that “wave” is not a technical term, as it’s bound to have many interpretations.
