World Bank PH apologizes to DepEd
The World Bank Philippines issued an apology to the Philippine government and the Department of Education (DepEd) for “inadvertently” releasing a report on the poor learning outcomes of Filipino students.
On its website, World Bank PH posted the statement saying, “We deeply regret that the report on education was inadvertently published earlier than scheduled and before the Department of Education had enough chance to provide inputs.” The bank also claimed that there “oversight on our part.”
This is in response to DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones’ interview last July 5 on how the World Bank “insulted” and “shamed” the country after releasing an outdated report. “I believe DepEd deserves a public apology. No less,” the secretary added.
The World Bank reportedly reached out to Briones and is looking “forward to continuing our dialogue with the Department of Education on the opportunities and challenges in the education sector.”
