Transact Global defends termination of quarantined employees

India-based Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) provider Transact Global has justified the termination of its 11 quarantined employees in response to a report published by The New Indian Express (TNIE) last August 16.
According to TNIE’s report, the outsourcing firm has fired the employees after two of its control room staff have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and the other nine decided to stay at their homes to quarantine without approval for their leaves.
Transact Global VP of Operations Sridhar Subramanian explained in a statement that only one person had tested positive and no other COVID-19 cases were reported in their office. He called the other 10 employees “paranoid/lazy to work” because they demanded a work-from-home duty.
Subramanian added that “they could have produced the positive certificate” in case they have the COVID-19 virus, but they didn’t.
According to the VP, termination letters were only sent a week later after the employees stopped responding to the company’s calls.
