Facebook launches new VR app for remote employees

Facebook launched the beta test of its new virtual reality (VR) remote work application Horizon Workrooms, where users of the company’s Oculus Quest 2 headsets can hold meetings as avatar versions of themselves.
In a VR news conference, Facebook’s Reality Labs group vice president Andrew Bosworth said that the new app gives “a good sense” of how the company envisions elements of the metaverse — a concept that has been repeatedly touted by CEO Mark Zuckerberg over the past weeks.
Bosworth added that the Workrooms app is “one of those foundational steps in that direction.”
Through Facebook’s new app, users can design their avatar versions to meet in VR conference rooms and work on shared whiteboards or documents.
The app allows up to 16 people together in VR and up to 50 total video conference participants. Bosworth stated that Facebook is now using Workrooms regularly for internal meetings.
