PH internet speed increased in July

The Philippines’ average internet speed has continued its progress in July, according to data released by Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index.
The index shows that the country posted an average download speed of 71.17 megabits per second (Mbps) for fixed broadband last month, an upgrade from June’s 66.55 Mbps average speed.
Meanwhile, the mobile internet average download speed increased to 33.69 Mbps from 32.84 Mbps.
With these improvements, the Philippines is now in 63rd place out of 180 countries in the global ranking for fixed broadband and 72nd out of 139 countries for mobile internet.
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has attributed this sustained development to its digital connectivity initiatives and President Rodrigo Duterte’s 2020 directive for telcos to improve their services amid the pandemic.
