69% of SA firms depend on antivirus to protect their network – CyberAntix

About 69% of South African organizations are depending on various antivirus software to protect their networks from cyberattacks, according to cyber security firm CyberAntix.
The survey, conducted last June with 208 respondents, also showed that 50% of SA firms rely on Active Directory, 45% have Web application firewall, 41% are using endpoint detection and response, and 35% have DNS protection in their systems.
Together with ITWeb, the tech company organized an online cyber security survey to discover the current status of the incident response preparedness of several South African organizations.
CyberAntix head of Compliance and Operations Dr. Pierre Jacobs said that the participants seem to put “focus on endpoint protection controls.”
However, Jacobs added that there “is the lack of reference to [the] perimeter and network controls.”
A total of 63% of interviewed respondents disclosed that they receive security alerts in their dashboards or mailboxes, while 23% collect all logs and alerts from a SIEM solution, and 10% do not have an alert system at all.
Jacobs stated that their report has also shown a “healthy appetite to outsource vulnerability scanning to third parties,” which indicates that the majority of the participating SA firms do not have a strong vulnerability management strategy in place.
