4th COVID wave in PH ‘most severe’ – PCP

The Philippines is currently experiencing its fourth and “most severe” wave of COVID-19 infections, according to the Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) president Dr. Maricar Limpin.
During a virtual health workers’ forum, Dr. Limpin said that the 30% positivity rate in the country is “too high” and “unacceptable” as opposed to the normal and under control five per cent.
The PCP president added that the current wave was driven by the continuous spread of Delta variant as cases are increasing without any sign of slowing down even when vaccines have become readily available in various parts of the country.
Limpin also agreed with the Department of Health’s (DOH) latest assessment that the current wave has yet to reach its climax, even after recording over 26,000 new cases in only one day.
On Sunday, the DOH reported a total of 19,271 new COVID-19 infections in the Philippines. The health agency stated that the country has a current positivity rate of 25.1% out of over 70,000 people who were tested last September 17.
