Long-term WFH and remote work policies urged by BPO sector

The Philippines government is urged to adopt long-term policies for the outsourcing industry that will fit the post-pandemic workplace and the hybrid work model, said Contact Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP) Chairman Benedict Hernandez.
In an interview, Hernandez is encouraging lawmakers to amend certain tax breaks specific to the sector. It should be noted that current tax break policies are only valid if the bulk of the company’s employees work in their offices.
Earlier this year, a change in the fiscal incentives system phased out or adjusted certain tax breaks for economic locators operating in the country.
Several outsourcing firms have voiced their concerns and said that reducing tax incentives can potentially make the Philippines more expensive and drive away foreign investors.
Despite the forecasted nine per cent 2021 revenue growth in the industry, higher than the 6%-7% average global growth, Hernandez is insisting that the outsourcing industry still needs “support and protection so that we can continue creating more jobs and helping the economy recover.”
