174-hectare, P23-bn worth Smart City to be built in Dumaguete

Dumaguete City is planning to develop a 174-hectare “Smart City” worth P23-billion to transform the province into a new economic and tourism hub in the central Philippines.
This project is an unsolicited public-private partnership proposal by EM Cuerpo Inc. (EMCI) which is expected to be completed within five years.
City mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said that the Smart City will remodel Dumaguete “into a highly-urbanized city with a mixed-use central business district equipped with earth-friendly building systems, green energy sources, and modern information technologies.” He added that “it will also house public facilities for health, housing, education, sports, and transportation.”
The local government and EMCI are planning to equip the center with a 5G-ready underground cable network for ICT locators, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) firms, and other facilities that will operate in the center.
Dumaguete’s Smart City is expected to generate “tens of thousands of jobs” for workers, especially those who lost their jobs due to the pandemic.
