PH on 121st spot in Nikkei’s COVID-19 Recovery Index

The Philippines earned the 121st spot in Nikkei’s COVID-19 Recovery Index, ranking the country furthest from overcoming the pandemic behind 120 nations and areas.
The index scores countries and regions across the globe on infection management, vaccination rollout and programs, and social mobility amid the pandemic.
Nikkei Asia’s report on the index said that even though the daily new cases in the country have started to drop, only less than 30% of the population are fully vaccinated, a figure that is “low even among ASEAN countries.”
There are currently 20.54% of fully-vaxxed Filipinos even as health experts said that 90% of the population must be inoculated to reach herd immunity.
Meanwhile, the Philippines’ total caseload reached 2.62 million as of October 6 with a positivity rate of 18.2%.
