Digital recruitment tools to solve SA’s skills gap and unemployment rate

Using digital recruitment tools will help close the skills gap and tackle South Africa’s ever-increasing unemployment rate, said outsourcing provider Merchants’ Group Chief Revenue Officer Mat Conn.
Conn stated that compared to traditional recruitment methods, digital recruitment tools match job seekers to available roles that fit their ability and behavioral traits.
With an increasing number of organizations now adopting remote working practices, Conn is expecting to see more and more businesses making use of digital recruitment tools by 2022. Currently, more than 72,000 South Africans are working in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry.
Additionally, management consulting firm McKinsey & Company noted that 61% of existing offshore business in the country comes from the United Kingdom, followed by the United States and Canada with 18%, and Australia with 11%.
Conn concluded that “moving beyond traditional recruitment practices will allow South African businesses to develop the talent necessary to push their businesses – and the country – forward toward the 4th industrial revolution.”
