PH’s death rate ranked the lowest among countries with high COVID cases
The Philippines has the lowest number of COVID-19 deaths compared to eight other “mostly wealthy” countries with the highest number of cases, said Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque.
Citing the “Our World In Data” report, Duque stated that the pandemic-related mortality rate in the country ranked lowest compared to the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Italy, United Kingdom, Spain, France, and Germany.
The data compared the number of deaths from January 5, 2020, up to March 31, 2021.
Dugue noted that low mortality is due to the “much improved prevent, detect, isolate, treat, reintegrate and lately, improving vaccination rate” in the country — especially in the National Capital Region.
The Health Secretary added that the “early detection to isolation efforts of our local government units contribute to the low morbidity.”
Duque also gave credit to the health care workers for the “improved clinical care management” of COVID-19 patients in the Philippines.
